Losin' he was losing his mind
Can't remember when it started
I was trying to lose mine
Used to blame it on the bottles
We shared too many nights
Found out it was a battle
In a long drawn-out fight

Losin' he is losing his mind
I know he can't remember
All the times we've left behind
I see him try to hide it, see it bring him down
Find him at home weeping
When there's no one else around

And it breaks my heart
To see the man that raised me in this way
And I often wonder if he'd recognize my face
If he'll answer to the sound of his own name
Dear John

Moving, moving faster everyday
Soaking up these moments, as he fades away
Said, “I really love you,” and gave a hug goodbye
I tell my wife, "I miss him,"
As I put the car in drive

Amid the pain and suffering
We all long for hope
Some may turn to know it
While the world is playin' jokes
Choosing, choosing God's love everyday
Grateful for the grace in
The promise that he gave

And it makes my heart
Relieved to know we may be raised someday
And I often wonder if I'll get to see his face
Will I hear him shouting out my name?
Waiting for the dawn

Walked down to the river
Time went flowing by
Memories came flooding
And poured out of my eyes
Swimming, reminiscing
To when we washed our sins away
Side by side, close our eyes
In harmony we pray

With thankful hearts
Bursting like a choir in joyous praise
And I often wonder
When we'll see the dawning of that day
