lyrics
I SHOULD REMEMBER
Patrick Foster
Staring at the wall I feel old, old and I’ll,
aching and chilled, dirty and filled with dust,
Why am I ungrateful, it’s a joke,
when everything I need is desperate for me,
Filter, I’ve got to filter through my greed,
there is a selfishness that laughs when I feed it,
I know I’ll hear it til my death,
til the breath goes out from my chest,
and the dust fills what remains,
I’ll let go of what has been,
when I see you after everything has changed,
when the world is right again,
I hear God’s name roll off the hills, i
t’s so much louder than its ever been,
You’re the only one on earth who knows,
The corners of me that I can’t define, that make me hide,
How do you radiate the warmth you do,
How does honey drip from your fingers through the bitterness,
You remind me that God is good,
When we all face our health, and fear of emptiness,
When we don’t trust ourselves with the future of our loved ones,
When our backs are breaking, breaking with burdens,
That we pile upon ourselves just to keep from feeling useless,
take up heart because God is good.
